Long Range Plan Action Items

2007-2010

             Worship

• Review the Children’s Church/Extended Hour program and implement any recommended changes-by February, 2008

Responsibility: Education Team and Worship Team

• Review the need for and possibilities of choral and instrumental music experiences for our children and youth and bring recommendations to the Congregational Council –by February, 2009                                  

Responsibility: Worship Team and Education Team

• Replace the organ in our worship room.  In conjunction with this evaluate and/or upgrade the piano and its use in worship-by September, 2009

• Improve sound system- by September, 2007

• Install new, hidden lighting in the worship room – by February, 2008

Education

• Review the needs of our Church School program, set-up appropriate age-graded classes from birth through adult, and confirm appropriate curriculum for the next program year – by July, 2007 (and each year thereafter)

Responsibility: Education Team 

• Review supplemental programs for children’s education (such as AWANA) and recommend whether or not such a program would be timely and appropriate for our church to initiate in 2009- by December, 2008

• Plan a “Four Freedoms” Sunday and an annual event thereafter to reaffirm our commitment to the Baptist ideals of church, Bible, individual, and religious freedom and to promote these ideals to the larger community-by June, 2008

Responsibility: Denominational Relations Team

• Develop a plan for calling out and training youth as Christian leaders -by September, 2008

Responsibility:  Youth Ministry Sub-Committee (of Education Team)

• Develop an updated, accessible, relevant church library-by March, 2009

• Provide an annual training and/or enrichment event for Church School teachers-  by August, 2008 (and annually thereafter),

Mission/Outreach

• Sponsor an annual Mission Planning Day, in which all who are interested in missions will meet to plan major emphases and projected mission expenditures for the coming year-by October, 2007 (and each October thereafter)

Responsibility: Missions Team and Denominational Relations Team

• Review the progress of the new Congregational Health Ministry and make a report at the annual meeting as to how (or whether) this initiative will become a permanent part of our church’s ministry-by December, 2007

Responsibility:  Congregational Health Ministry Team and Diaconate

• For each year of this plan, commit to a .5% increase in our total mission giving over the  baseline budget  

Responsibility:  Missions Team and Stewardship Team

• Develop a plan for personally inviting Peakland members and friends to become involved in the mission work of our church- by February, 2008

• Institute a program of visitation outreach, both for those who visit our church as well as for members and shut-ins-by January, 2008

• Establish a periodic (at least twice annually)“invite a friend” Sunday- by March, 2008,

• Plan an annual Sunday emphasis in which our church identifies and affirms the service that people offer in the community beyond the mission projects sponsored by PBC- by November, 2009 (and each year thereafter)

• Establish a “sister church” relation with another church-by January, 2010

Responsibility:  Outreach Team

            Fellowship

• Institute a monthly church dinner on the 1^st Wednesday of each month (except for June-August) with activities for all ages-by January, 2008

Responsibility:  Fellowship Team plus a team to plan program (on rotating basis)

• Nurture a culture of inviting/asking people to participate in the life and activities of our church, not just waiting for people to show-up/volunteer-by January, 2008

Responsibility:  All church leaders, staff, and teams (Congregational Council)

• Review the original plans for the church playground and

recommend any actions to complete the playground and/or develop the use of our

grounds for recreational purposes. (For example, development of a softball or

volleyball field)-  by March, 2008

Responsibility: Education Team and Facilities Team

• Develop a New Members’ Curriculum that will educate, involve, and assimilate new members of our church.  This curriculum will include updated new member brochures and other information- by January, 2008,

Responsibility:  Diaconate and Outreach Team

• Diaconate in their bi-monthly meetings will review patterns of member participation and will develop a plan for reaching out to inactive church members -by March, 2008

• Develop a program for young adults (post-high school age)- by June, 2008

Administration/Resources

• Develop a “gifts list” which can be used both to guide the choices of families/individuals who wish to make memorial gifts as well as to forecast some of the items needed to enhance our current and future programs-by December, 2007

Responsibility:  All teams and leaders (through the Congregational Council)

• Publish an annual calendar with key dates for the year ahead- by January, 2008 (and every year thereafter)

Responsibility:  Congregational Council and Church Staff

• Hire an Associate Pastor to support the continued numerical and programmatic growth of our congregation-by June 2008  (In preparing for this change, we will involve all leaders in a review of church needs and current staff assignments by October, 2007)

Responsibility:   Personnel Team, Congregational Council

• Review and analyze what does and does not work about our current congregational organization.  Make recommendations to the congregation as to changes that would make our church structure more effective and accountable-by June, 2008

Responsibility: Congregational Council and Church Staff

• Request each Team and/or program group to present a plan for the coming year, so that a combined congregational plan can be presented to the annual meeting in December- by October, 2008 (and every year thereafter)

• Complete a new parking lot which will support the maximum

number of parking spaces for our current worship facility-by January, 2009

• Review this strategic plan and update it in light of current developments and future prospects-by June, 2009 (and every year thereafter)

• Develop a plan for the expansion of our education/administration building to accommodate our projected growth-  by March, 2010
